The daily reading of the Quran.

I absolutely wanted to write a few words concerning the daily reading of the Quran. In fact, it’s clear that as Muslims, concerned about knowing our religion and thus practicing it as better as we can, the contact with The book of Allah – The most High – is of a great importance. The Holy Quran represents, as the Prophet ﷺ himself stated, an action that should not be neglected :

It was reported from Abu Salamah, from Abdullah bin Amr (RA) that the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Recite the Qur’an in one month.” He responded, “I find myself (more) energetic.” The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Recite it in twenty (days).” He responded, “I find myself (more) energetic.” The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Recite it in fifteen.” He responded, “I find myself (more) energetic.” The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Recite it in ten.” He responded, “I find myself (more) energetic.” So he (the Prophet, PBUH) said, “Recite it in seven and do not do more than that.”(Hadith No. 1388, Chapters pertaining to the Month of Ramadan, Sunan Abu Dawud, Vol. 2).

We understand clearly from this hadeeth what the Quran meant to Muhammad and his companions رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنهُم – and how the daily reading of the Quran was setting the tempo of their everyday life .

Therefore, it’s obvious that the first necessary step before starting to memorize the Quran, is to build a true relationship with it by reading it on a daily basis.

To do so, one must dedicate a daily amount of time to read it, meditate and reflect upon it.

How can someone wouldn’t want and feel the need to anchor those Noble Words for good in his heart when he recites them everyday? They’re so much better than anything else we could read and memorize. We All remember how many poetry, dialogues and plays we memorized during our education years. Our children are still doing the same at school. « To be or not to be… », those words are still in the minds of many of us !

Well, the time has come to finally make the Quran resonate in our homes, in our cars, our mp3s and smart phones and mainly in our hearts by reading it everyday. It is time that the Quran resonates in our ears and above all that our hearts be relieved by the evocation of Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ , as He says :

« Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah . Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts are assured. » » [13:28]
